Nursing is playing an important role in society as it provides the most essential services in the healthcare triangle. Nursing has always been a noble Profession. Nursing is a profession within the health care sector focused on the care of individuals, families, and communities to attain, maintain or recover optimal health and quality of life.
Nursing professionals are different from other health care providers in their approach towards patient care, training and scope of practice. Many provide care within the ordering scope of physicians as per traditional image of care providers. Now nursing professionals are also permitted to practice independently in some countries depending on their training levels. Nursing professionals develop a plan of care, working collaboratively with physicians, therapists, patients, the patient's family and other team members that focus on treating illness to improve quality of life. Nursing education in India is regulated by The Nursing Council Act, passed in 1948. This act ensures the quality of nursing education in India. The Indian Nursing Council (INC) is an autonomous body that acts as a regulatory body for nurses and nursing education. Any candidate desiring to practice nursing after passing out nursing course has to register in State Nursing Council. Healthcare sector is now one of the priority areas of Government of India. Some sources say that the country is facing 50% shortage in this profession.
